The Customer Brief. Cherry Grove was a new build development first under construction in May 1995 and completed in April 1996. The site comprises 48 one and two bedroom houses with the purpose of providing affordable housing to the local community. During frequent meetings with the residents’ committee, Thames Valley Housing Association were made aware that the existing street lighting was providing inadequate illumination and unlit areas were a concern for those residents who felt vulnerable late at night. DigiGroup were tasked with providing a cost efficient solution utilising the existing lighting structures where possible.
The Solution. DigiGroup investigated and analysed several alternative external lighting options, overlaying the lighting distribution specifications for each across the original site development plans. Working closely with the residents and the client we determined that the definitive solution was to use Highway Lighting Systems 18 LED Street Lights which, not only provided excellent illumination but also met with TVHA’s commitment to reducing their carbon footprint by installing a far more energy efficient lighting system and thus reducing the annual electricity costs.
The Conclusion. Working in conjunction with both the residents association and Thames Valley Housing Association, DigiGroup delivered a total solution within the scope of works that exceeded expectations. The bespoke solution reduced the operational running costs of the street lighting system by 55% and reduced CO2 emissions in comparison to standard street lighting. In addition the residential walkways had a much better ambience at night.
